Run Over (2021)
Run Over began as an attempt to process a traumatic event that I did not witness but could not stop imagining. In 2019, my husband was struck by a car while cycling. As I waited at the trauma hospital, unable to see him, photographs of the accident circulated among friends, who tried to describe what they saw without exposing me to the full violence of the scene.
As a visual person, I began constructing my own images from their words. Those imagined fragments remained with me, and food became the material through which I could approach ideas of impact, vulnerability, and loss of control.
The series also reflects on my own experience of turning to food as an emotional escape, and on the moment when that source of comfort began to feel overpowering. Rather than equating these experiences, the work uses the visual language of collision to examine how trauma, desire, and compulsion can remain in the body and return in unexpected forms.
